Another automotive dashboard is not a strategy

By Tony Byrne · Vertex Automotive Solutions

Automotive businesses do not lack recorded activity. They lack enough time and shared context to turn the activity into clear decisions.

Automotive businesses do not lack recorded activity. They lack enough time and shared context to turn the activity into clear decisions.

Our May work on the Omnia proposition brought warranty, parts, customer experience and people capability into the same discussion. The commercial argument was that these areas influence one another, even when the systems reporting them remain separate.

A repair awaiting a component can affect workshop capacity, mobility cost, warranty handling and customer confidence at once. Four dashboards may describe four consequences without making the unresolved dependency any easier to manage.

Vertex Automotive Solutions is developing Omnia around that decision gap. The ambition is to bring relevant evidence into a form that helps the responsible person understand what matters, what remains uncertain and what action is within their authority.

The case for connection must still be earned. A combined screen can become another place to search if the underlying definitions and responsibilities remain inconsistent. The system needs a clear operational question and a reliable path back to the records supporting its answer.

Start with one problem that repeatedly crosses departments. Establish its baseline, current ownership and the evidence needed to resolve it. Then judge whether the proposed intelligence makes that work more dependable.

If your management meeting spends more time reconciling reports than deciding what to do, bring Vertex one unresolved case. A useful first engagement should make the next decision clearer before the technology becomes more complicated.
