Datavation: intelligence needs a dependable record underneath it

By Tony Byrne · Vertex Automotive Solutions

An intelligent answer cannot repair an unreliable record without first exposing the uncertainty.

An intelligent answer cannot repair an unreliable record without first exposing the uncertainty.

Datavation’s automotive data proposition featured in our October discussion. Its vendor description places a unified data foundation beneath an agent layer intended to answer questions and support action across systems. It is a useful example of the architecture the market is pursuing, rather than independent proof of its effectiveness.

Vertex’s first question would be how conflicting records are resolved. Two systems may disagree about a vehicle, a customer or a completed action. Presenting the disagreement clearly can be more valuable than producing one confident answer that hides the decision made underneath.

The next question concerns authority. Retrieving information, recommending an action and executing it have different consequences. An employee should understand which stage the system has reached and what evidence supports a commitment made on the business’s behalf.

These distinctions are central to Omnia’s development direction. A useful intelligence layer should connect source, interpretation and responsibility. It should not rely on conversational fluency to conceal missing context or untested system connections.

When reviewing an agent platform, provide a case with inconsistent records and a consequential next step. Ask it to explain what it knows, what needs checking and who may authorise the action. The result will tell you more than a frictionless demonstration.
